    Need a little help

So I have been out of the tech loop for a LONG time now. And my wife needs a PC since I will be deploying AGAIN to Iraq. And all we currently have is my laptop.

I want to build something for under one grand, thats still pretty good.

Can someone suggest a motherboard/PC combo? and whats with these new video cards? the PCIe? Whats up with thoughs? Last I heard they blew my mind. I was told there way faster than AGP 8X.

    Thanks guys.

680i/e6600 core2 duo, then pretty much any of the PCI-E ati radeon 19xx/xt, or geforce 7/8 series PCI-E

Then there's lower budget cpu/mobo combo with the same radeon PCI-E

an amd 64 venice 3000 and nforce 4 ultra combo. Brand specific, I'd go with toms hardware guide to pick one that has the features you want and performs in the top 10.

Well, I don't normally do this but since you are in the service, I thought of giving you a break. Since I am relocating soon I could do away with a few of my PCs (from really old, slower ones to somewhat newer, more powerful ones).

If you are interested, I could ship you one of them for really really cheap but let me know what type of a PC would she need as these do not exactly have the newest/highest specs. IF she doesn't need a really powerful machine a PC with a few to several year old specs would suffice, this might save you hundreds of $$.

    Let me know.

PS. I will be posting the PCs in the Trade section soon but can't decide if I should take them apart and sell by parts (better for me $$ wise but this would probably consume much of my time) or sell them as a whole unit.

    That would be awesome!

The only thing that she does that really requires any computing power is a little stuff in autocad, and adobe paint shop / jasc paint shop pro 9 etc. Just that and browse the internet.

What would you be willing to spare, and how much?

Sorry Ripper been busy with the relocation. The PC I had in mind was AMD either an XP2500 or XP2600. I had either a 64 or 128mb Video and at least 512MB DDR2700 RAM with a 120GB HDD but I have to check to make sure. But even if some of the specs arre different, with all the spare parts I got I am sure I could turn it into something decent enough for her.

$$ wise I don't give a rat's behind since I am not doing this for money but I don't want to give away free PC and got ton of people asking me for another either! PM me and we could talk about this in private, ok?

I will ask my sister to bring one when she is coming to visit me if not I will probably drive back to pick it up in a few weeks so I hope you were not in a rush?
