    I think it is that simple but considering the geography knowledge of an average American and the way the question was asked, people start counting the S's in mississippi river (did I typed it right? ).

    It could be as simple as "none" for the nile or amazon, it could be convoluted and "one" for the statement "longeSt river in the world" or it could be right or wrong as the mississippi that has 4 s's... maybe that all covers it.

    You're probably right (and your spelling is correct for Mississippi). I was thinking more along the lines of how rivers flow and the "S" curves that they have. But I'm sure that is not what was implied and the correct answer is most likely the Nile.
