If I had an unlimmited supply of water, I wouldn't be using it to measure out 4 gallons..... Thinking more like giving it to the people that want to divert the Gualala for hydro/agro. to protect the natural river, the ocean fish spawning grounds, the natural steelhead streams, Camping, kayaking, floating, swimming and keep the wine growers and farmers from pumping out of the Gualala.

    NEXT RIDDLE:

You have a 5 gallon bucket and a 3 gallon bucket. How do you measure out 4 gallons of water using only these 2 buckets, with an unlimited water supply and using any combination of fills/dumps/refills as needed?
Fill the 5g up, dump it into the 3g one, then empty out the 3g bucket. Now you have exactly 2g left in the 5g bucket, dump that into the 3g bucket.
Fill up the 5g bucket again and then try to fill up the 3g bucket since there was already 2 gallon of water in the 3g bucket, you'd only be able to pour 1gallon into it, what is left in the 5g bucket would be exactly 4 gallons.

ANSWER (Congrats Math and TL! In light of the number of answers, i will post only one):
Fill the 3 gal bucket, dump it in the 5 gal bucket. Repeat. After you have done it twice you will have 1 gallon in the 3 gal bucket. Dump the 5 gal bucket out. Dump the 3 gal bucket into the empty 5 gal bucket. Then fill the 3 gal bucket again and drain into the 5 gal bucket that has 1 gallon of water. VOILA, you know have 4 gals of water.

There is a pink single story house and everything in it is pink. The doors are pink, the windows are pink and the TV is pink. What color are the stairs?

I agree. The "correct" answer seems to take too long. And since you only have 2 buckets, Mathsters doesn't work becuase you have no way of emptying the 2 gals out.

    Next riddle please....I B bored

    NEXT RIDDLE:

This old one runs forever, but never moves at all. He has not lungs nor throat, but still a mighty roaring call. What is it?

    TL - Get over yourself.

Cauzomb - Mathster's answer works. You can empty and refill the buckets as many times as needed.
