Well I'm pretty close to wrapping up my wireless access/remote client setup. previously it was a linksys wrt54g flashed with dd-wrt in client mode and bungee corded to the railing on the ship with a plastic bag over it to keep in dry. I've made some changes since then.
I took the circuit board out of the wrt box and mounted it inside a pelican case with an 8dbi gain antenna mounted on one side and a waterproof wire fitting on the other. Just have to come up with a better POE (power over ethernet) solution (previous one was just a wall wart cut in the middle and spliced into the cat 5e then broke out on the other end. I'm going to try and make something a little more elegant for this project. Anyway it's turning out quite nice and the pelican case is definitely a nice touch since it was only $40 and many online wireless vendors were asking 2 or 3 times that for a waterproof enclosure.
The pictures are from my crappy phone, but you can get the idea.
