Is it adware?

Hope you don't mind this question

I just downloaded and installed a freeware program Video Ads Blocker v.2 by SynergeticSoft (SynergeticSoft.com), after a few clicks on the Ads Blocker program, an ad for "privacy defender" also from the same company appeared once.

Anyway run a check on Spybot & Spyware blaster, it comes out clean.

Is this normal for companies advertise like this to do this or is it adware?

Uninstall this program. I have no knowledge of it and can find nothing against it OR for it either.BUT...it sounds to me, if ads are popping up for other products made by the same company then it is something you don't want on the computer.
Uninstall it via Add/Remove and then do a file search for anything with that name on the computer and also anthing on the computer named SynergeticSoft. If you find any, delete them.

One other thing...you state that you

This may be the case for Spybot, but SpywareBlaster is NOT a scanner program. It is a protection program, there is no way you could run a scan with it. It doesn't even RUN in the background, it is "just there" to protect the computer. Both Spybot and SpywareBlaster are excellent, and highly recommended, but totally different in what they do.
If you want to block pop-ups I would suggest using Firefox browser, which has a built in pop-up blocker that works extremely well and is a much safer browser to use than Internet Explorer.
Remove that program and be certain to search for any remaining files, BEFORE you reboot the computer. Some things like this have some "extras" which don't activate until the computer is rebooted.
