    ctfmon.exe

I am not sure if this spy-ware or a virus or something else. Every time I restart my computer ctfmon.exe starts. I can edit it with msconfig and spy sweeper using spy-sweeper startup edit but it still comes back. I can go to task manager and kill the application but the next time I restart, it's back. Should I be concerned and what should I do about it. Thanks.

If you have Microsoft Office on the computer it is part of Microsoft Office and is of no concern. Of course anything can take another name and use it too. If you are concerned then by all means follow the steps in

Thanks for looking at my problem. I am already doing everything in the sticky suggestions. I try to keep a clean computer. I use spy sweeper, trend micro, ca spy ware, spybot, adaware and use window washer. I update regularly and run scans often. Sometimes in safe mode. I use Zone Alarm firewall with anti-virus and spy ware. I have (and use) Microsoft word 2002 fairly regular but have uninstalled the other office products. This just started happening about 2 weeks ago. I am not sure but I think it started after a Microsoft update. The first time I open Explorer, spy sweeper kicks up an alert that ctfmon.exe is trying to enter the start menu. I prevent it and then go to task manager and kill the application. No other problems until I restart and hit IE7. Below is my HJT log. Thanks again and advise any other problems in the HJT log.

You show you are running CA Security Suite, Zone Alarm Security Suite, I also see Symantec...
So you are running two anti-virus programs because BOTH security suites contain an anti-virus program.
This is a no-no. Plus you are running "boatload" of Webroot items.
Here are some notes I found on CA.....

CA Internet Security Suite 2007 includes simple, effective AV and nicely implemented whitelist-based antispam. The spyware scan is fast, but real-time protection is weak. Antispyware isn't effective at blocking spyware installation. But I know you have also added all this Webroot stuff plus Anonymizer Total Net Shield.

All of this is your own choice, one you must make is get rid of one of those anti-virus programs and also do a file search for remaining Symantec/Norton files, because there ARE some there on the machine.
You ARE attempting to be super secure online and protect your computer and you are to be commended for that, but for the amount of money you are spending I honestly think you could go cheaper, better, plus overkill must be considered also. AND just because something costs a lot of money does not make it better. There are a lot of better, cheaper, even FREE programs out there which offer super protection. Check HERE

Thanks for the response. I am aware of the 2 anti virus no-no. I had CA anti virus but was have uninstalled it before I went with Zone Alarm. It shows ca security suite but the only item installed is the spyware. The only two items running is Zone Alarm and Spysweeper. All the others I just use for scanning. I just use Total Net Shield for surfing the web on sites I'm not sure about. Can't use it on Ebay or Paypay. If you log in using TNS, you will have to change your password in a day or two. I will search for Symantec file and delete them. I uninstalled it a long time ago but you know how it is, programs like to leave stuff in your computer.

    This isn't the case...
    The following items do show as running processes during your HJT scan;
    C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\PPRT\bin\ITMRTSVC.exe
    C:\Program Files\CA\CA Internet Security Suite\cctray\cctray.exe
    C:\Program Files\CA\CA Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Spyware\CAPPActiveProtection.exe
    C:\Program Files\CA\CA Internet Security Suite\ccprovsp.exe
    C:\Program Files\Anonymizer TNS\AnonTns.exe
Total Net is set to auto-start when Windows starts up as is the CA Security Suite.

Good catch. I altered my start menu. I would like to keep Total Net on the task bar so I can enable and disable as needed. I think I got all the CA disabled. I do still have the original problem. New HJT log below. Any more ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

If by the original problem you mean
Every time I restart my computer ctfmon.exe starts.
This is what it is supposed to do.

Thanks, found it. I did everything in the Microsoft directions but it still did the same thing. I figured it had something to do with interpreting foreign language. I went to control panel/Date time,Language & Regional options/Regional & Language options/Languages tab. The Microsoft bulletin said to click the details tab but I noticed that in the Supplemental language support box there was a check mark next to Install files for East Asian languages. I unchecked the box and rebooted and all is fine. Thought I would post what I found, might help someone else out. Thanks for you help. I would not have found it without your help.
