HDD Access

I need a good (free preferably) program that will tell me whats accessing my HDD. I cant seem to find anything free thats worthwhile on the intarweb.

Do you mean you feel you have an "outsider" accessing your hard drive? or do you want to know what is loading and running all the time?

MsConfig will tell you what is loading up based on the "Run" key in the Registry; Process Explorer will tell you what all those svchost entries are in Task Manager. You should be able to google the rest of the entries separately.

I just wanted to mentioned What's Running listed under the Monitoring section of My Loco Utility List (see signature).

That tool provides a boat load of valuable info...

We know that Startshooter...we have given him several options on how to find this out and I asked him my question to be certain he didn't mean something was accessing the computer from the "outside". But as you see, he has not returned.

congratulations turc you win the prize! i knew you missed me since the last server crash. well anyway in response to your questions, i was just curious as to which process was accessing my hdd. like, when you go into task manager it tells you how much of each resource each process is using. i want that, for my hdd.

Well, Cauz mentioned seom good ones and the one I mentioned (What's Running) has a really neat interface and also shows a ton more info than other tools of this type.
