CD/DVD driver not responding HELP!

Hello jholland
Well it's been awhile and things have been going great until I tried to use my CD/DVD drive and nothing happened. I used Microsoft Fix It and got a message "Problem detected with TSST Corp DVD+RWTS-H653G ATA Device" I then went into Control Panel and checked my drive and had a message " A driver for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionally (code 32)". I tried updating the driver and got a message that the driver was up to date. I had this problem some months ago and did a System Restore back to a previous date and that corrected the problem for awhile but a system restore did not work this time. So I am at a loss. Ran Malwarebytes and that showed no malware.

You don't have infections. Your CD/DVD drive is disabled in the Device Manager. See if you can go in there and enable it.

Do NOT under any circumstances use System Restore again. System Restore doesn't work usually for hardware issues, except removing a driver.

By the way, since you did a System Restore AFTER you installed iTunes you may have to reinstall iTunes again. Cannot say for sure but System Restore could have removed so key files for it so if it doesn't work correctly this would be the reason.
Also any Windows Updates done just prior to using System Restore may also have to be reinstalled.

Look on the original Driver Disk you received for your computer and the Driver for the CD drive should be on there.

Thanks, will give a try reinstalling the drive. I don't know how to go in and enable it so I will just try to reinstall. Glad to see you are still around! You were so great and PATIENT with me last time I had an issue. Any idea what disabled the Driver and how to prevent it in the future? I did update the Windows updates and will just uninstall itunes and reinstall it to head off any issues. Thanks again!!!!

Go to the Device Manager, Click the Drive to open and then Right Click and choose Uninstall. Then reboot the computer and see if the computer sees the drive and reinstalls it.

Any number of things can do this, its likely you won't know.

If that doesn't work then it may be the drive is dead. Where did you get the driver that you installed by the way?

Oh no! I went to put in the disk and it just hit me my disk drive is disabled so it won't read the disk to do a reinstall. And when I tried to enable it through Device Manager I got a message that it did not install correctly and the messages are back where they were before. Okay do I have any other options?

Since it's a Dell you should be able to download it directly from Dell.

You said the computer is two years old but according to your DDS log The computer is not yet a year old, Install Date: 6/30/2012

It should still be under warranty. You can chat with them online about the problem by choosing Chat on this page:

I have done this many times always with good results, even with computers no longer under warranty by the way.

You can also go here, have it detect your service tag and then get the full original information about the computer AND you can also go from there to download the original drivers right from them.
