Desperately need help! My firewall will not turn on.

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help!
To begin I did have McAfee ( came as a promotion on my new Dell computer for 18 months free) but deleted it and I am now using Avast. I fell victim to the idea that something free can’t be as good as something that you pay for. However, I have only had Avast on my laptop for a couple of years and never had a problem and this is the second time in a year that McAfee has let something through. Anyway that being said here is my problem. I run Malwarebytes monthly. It turned up a RootKit.OAccess warning. I had to run it three times telling it to get rid of it before it stopped showing up. Then when I installed Avast it found two of these: Win32:Funweb.ck@ (pup) so I told Avast to delete these and they are not showing up anymore. However, I have strange things going on now. My icons will not stay where I put them on my desktop. I place them then when I log off and turn the computer back on they are all lines up on the left side of the screen. I also keep getting warning every few minutes that Avast has detected a threat and put it in the chest. So I got to checking and it seems that my firewall is off and when I try to turn it on I get an error code: 0x80070424. So I do not know what is going on or what to do. I have Windows 7 and this Dell computer is just a little over a year old. I cannot get the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software removal tool to install; here are the results of everything else.

I uninstalled McAfee and now have Avast
GMER one and Two are blank
    Malwarebytes shows all 0’s
And here is the results of the DDS scan:

Hello and Welcome to Network Techs! Can you copy/paste the Malwarebytes log please?

McAfee has NOT been uninstalled, it clearly shows as installed and working on the machine as indicated by the DDS log:
    AV: McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware *Enabled/Updated*
    SP: McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware *Enabled/Updated*
    FW: McAfee Firewall *Enabled*

Avast shows as running also. How did you Uninstall McAfee? It must be actually Uninstalled, not deleted.

Also please copy/paste the Attach.txt log produced by the DDS scan

I used the uninstall program in the Control Panel to uninstall McAfee. It disappeared from the list and off my desktop so I assumed it was gone. I will recheck to see if it is showing back up, not sure why it did not uninstall. Okay so this could be a problem so should I uninstall Avast until I figure out how to get rid of McAfee?

Okay, I am really confused and so glad you are helping me because I went to my Uninstall list in the Control Panel and the McAfee is not showing up on the list. I did tell it to uninstall so I am wondering what happened since it is still showing up on the log. Did it make a difference that it came already loaded on the computer when I received it instead of me installing it? Should I contact McAfee? I know a lot of questions but Wow so frustrating. If you remember me from last year on Daniweb I am in my mid 50's and not tec savy at all. Anyway, I am guessing that having McAfee still installed is why I can't turn on my firewall and why I keep getting notices from Avast every few minutes that a threat has been detected. But that of course is just my guess and I guess a lot that is why I am seeking more experienced advise. So glad I thought to email you through PM and you directed me here because almost 24 hours after posting my problem on Daniweb no one has responded with advise, not sure why. Anyway a great BIG thank you to you!
Here is the results of the Malwarebytes log that I have just run.

Don't worry about the time noted in the thread posts. Have no idea why they list incorrectly really. I am also in the Eastern times zone and they show incorrect for me too. No problem.

Exactly HOW did you uninstall McAfee, did you use Uninstall a Program as listed in Windows 7 Control Panel? It is not fully removed as it still shows in services.

You need to also use their Uninstall tool.

    Download the removal tool from:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

    1. Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.
    2. Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.
    3. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

When you receive the message CleanUp Successful, restart your computer. Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.

Since parts of McAfee is still on there it is possible that Avast was not installed fully or correctly so I recommend that you also Uninstall Avast using the Windows 7 Uninstall a Program.
After you have done that then also use the Avast Uninstall tool using these instructions:

How to uninstall Avast software using aswClear:

    1. Download aswclear.exe on your desktop
    2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
    3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
    4. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
    5. Click REMOVE
    6. Restart your computer

After you have done BOTH of the above then do the following:

Please run the ESET Online Scanner

    http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/scanner.php?i_agree=14
    * You can use Internet Explorer to complete this scan and you will need to allow an Active X to be installed or you may use Firefox
    * You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
    * Be sure the option to Remove found threats is checked and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.

    * When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.

Post back with the ESET log.

    Thanks,
I will follow all of the directions in your last post and get back to you with the results. To uninstall McAfee I did go to the Control Panel and then went to Uninstall a Program then I went to McAfee and highlighted it on the list then clicked on uninstall. Poof it was gone but apparently for some reason it did not completely uninstall. I guess the process listed above will take awhile so off I go to complete it and will be back momentary with the results.
