okay, I am with you now.
I went back and followed your directions using the new information that you gave me and I got this message: "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer, For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vender, and refer to service-specific error code 5."
Dang!!!
- Click Start , and then type Services in the Search box.
- Right-click Services. and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted, enter your administrator user name and password, and then press Enter.
- Scroll until you see Windows Firewall, and then double-click Windows Firewall.
- Click the Startup type box,and then click Automatic.
- If Service status is Stopped, click Start.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Scroll until you see Base Filtering Engine, and then double-click Base Filtering Engine.
- If Service status is Stopped, click Start.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Restart Windows and confirm whether Windows Firewall is enabled.
When I get to #5. The Service status is Stopped, however, when I click on Start a load bar begins then a box comes up with the same text stated above.
Base Filtering Engine is already on Started.
Try the fix again that I gave you before and see what it says this time:

Tried the fix again, no change same messages as before.
You mean this message?
1) Windows could not start Firewall 2) Firewall service not started then it had a yellow box that said BFE service could be missing
OR this message?
Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer, For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vender, and refer to service-specific error code 5."
Do you want to call it a night so you can think it over and start fresh in the morning? I am sorry that this problem is taking so much of your time but I do appreciate your help so very much. Do you think McAfee messed up something in the uninstall process or did I have a really damaging virus that messed something up?
