Outlook Express probably won't work because Internet Explorer is corrupted. If you repair IE6 this may also repair Outlook Express as both are "intertwined"
Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XPMethod 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP
- From the Start menu, select Run.
- In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
- Select the OK button.
- Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
- Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.
- From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
- Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
- Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
- In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
- In the Look In drop down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive
- Click the Search button.
- In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
- Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
- Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
sorry for the delayed response..
I have Windows Media Center and when I went through the above, it requested for me to put in XP Professional Disk2, so I put in the original disk, Operating System Windows XP Media Center2005 Update Rollup 2 and it says I have the wrong disk...
You have been very helpful, should I just work with Dell at this point, or if can still help thank you. I just dont want to be a hog with your time......
I have not tried the 2nd way you suggested yet. I wonder if that will give me the same error ?
Option 2 is the suggestion given to try if the first one does not work. I would try that one. If you get the same error after trying Option 2, and this is the only disk you received from Dell then I would then contact Dell Tech Support.
They do have a Chat with a Tech service on their website I have used in the past with pretty good results.
big thank you...and yes option 2 asked for the same disk.
I tried searching the disk for the file it was asking for, but it was not located on the disk....even with all the search options enabled....
I will call dell and thank you for all you have done..
I guess I didnt have a virus and just a corrputed IE.
Firefox works like a charm and I will be using that as my browser....funny but Windows Media player works with FireFox, but not IE, so as you suggested my IE is messed up....thank you very much for your time and prompt response....
We are ALWAYS happy to try to help. Let us know what you find out from Dell OK? This would be a big help to others with the same problem and the same system.
Judy
