    Question bogus norton woes

i got a bogus copy of norton on my desktop. f-secure doesnt detect it as a threat and outright attempts to uninstall have failed. i suspect this is a result of a younger sibling using my pc and going somewhere he shouldnt have as i have been clean for a VERY long time (even if i am bit tied down with bloatware). im fairly certain its bogus. its designation is "norton security scan". i dont use norton and generally follow the rule of 1 anti-virus per machine which atm and has always been f-secure. havent been on here in a while btw so happy day to me on rememebering my login
    some assistance please

Norton Security Scan is legitimate. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp and you may very well have installed it yourself.

It is very often piggy backed with another install, things like Adobe Shockwave Player very often contain this extra. This is why it is an absolute MUST, when installing an update or another program download to watch the install very closely, you will be given the option to NOT install this extra but you must remove the check mark next to the name of the extra item, if you do not then you will receive the extra. Many legitimate programs or their updates are bundled with items like this...Google Chrome is also often included with update files of legitimate items, like the Shockwave Player.

That said, we don't use HiJackThis at all now, especially for Vista or Windows 7 as it doesn't give an accurate scan, note all the services with the listings (File Missing) they are not missing HJT just doesn't know how to see them.

    Please do the following:

Download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/dds
Be sure follow the instructions below carefully
    • If your AV has a script blocker, please disable it
    • DoubleClick on dds.scr to run the tool
    * A command box will open, displaying added information for your reading pleasure while DDS completes its scan.
    * Upon completion, a Dialog Box should open instructing you to save and post the TWO resulting logs (DDS.txt & Attach.txt).
Copy&Paste both the DDS.txt and the DDS Attach.txt into your post for assistance.

Notice I say copy/paste BOTH logs. The Attach.txt log says at the top to attach it, please do not attach it but copy/paste it also

Both of these logs are very long and because of that will take multiple replies in order to post them here. Please split the logs carefully as each and every line must be seen.
