List of websites monitored by Department of Homeland Security's commandcenter

    http://cryptome.org/2012/01/0001.pdf

Here is the 2011 list. Apparently there is a 2012 list (I've found no
    link to that).

A "privacy compliance review" issued by DHS last November says that
since at least June 2010, its national operations center has been
operating a "Social Networking/Media Capability" which involves regular
monitoring of "publicly available online forums, blogs, public websites
and message boards." The purpose of the monitoring, says the government
document, is to "collect information used in providing situational
awareness and establishing a common operating picture."

The document adds, using more plain language, that such monitoring is
designed to help DHS and its numerous agencies, which include the U.S.
Secret Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency, to manage
government responses to such events as the 2010 earthquake and aftermath
in Haiti and security and border control related to the 2010 Winter
    Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"This is a representative list of sites that the NOC will start to
monitor in order to provide situational awareness and establish a common
operating picture under this Initiative," the document reads.

Thank you for the list, 'Virus Guy'. Most interesting.

Do you know if there is a similar listing of the Usenet newsgroups which
    the same team monitors?

The last time I 'reloaded' news.btinternet.com (which utilises Giganews)
I noticed that it now carries over 110,000 groups!

You claim an association with MI5, why don't you know the answer?

Why do you and your Texas bud like picking on women?

I've been more than fair to you, S*******. If you really don't wish to
start afresh in 2012 then be prepared for pain - *real* pain! Your call.

That's old news. ICE has been doing that for at least the past 2 years.

I noticed later that I screwed up the formatting of the list. I removed
too many "/" slashes, so some of the url's won't work as printed.

I've seen no mention of usenet in any of the cryptome DHS documents.

I get the impression that DHS doesn't know that usenet exists.

That article is from 2010. Aren't there Torrent sites still operating?
