Avira needs to pop up a notice

When Avira antivirus (paid version) auto-updates, it halts almost all
running processes completely and prevents the start of any other. The
effect is exactly the same as a freeze of the system, and can be quite
disconcerting as there is no indication of what is really happening
until the update finishes. Then Avira pops up a notice about "xx files
    were updated."

What Avira needs is a pop-up BEFORE the update starts. Something to
the effect of "Avira is about to update files. Please wait...."

    Would that be so hard?

I suggest posting in the Avira Support Forums.
    http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?langid=1

Also please fix your signature. It is too long (greater than 4 lines) and fails to use
    the proper signature delimiter.

I agree, David. A total lack of netiquette

This sounds like a typical ignorant Republican response that blames others,
    esp the signature.

Done. Forgot to put the delimiter in that one. Thanks for pointing it
    out.

Try dash dash space, the actual delimiter that works.
