    Thanks, Silj.

Got a message from Avira AV (paid) this afternoon that there was a new
version of what is now "Avira Antivirus Premium 2012". I installed it, but
during installation it scans for and asks for uninstalling of
"incompatible" software. In my case it didn't like both Spywareblaster
(paid) and Microsoft Security Essentials (free). I uninstalled MSSE, but
left SWB intact. Everything appears to be working properly and SWB did
download and install its updates as it was supposed to do. Oh, yeah, I
believe there were 2 or 3 reboots during the Avira installation, which
    uninstalled the old version first.

So, your AV is good to go ?
Sounds like Avira is snooping on your other legit software.

I look at it as Avira looking whether there might be conflicts as people
have experienced with multiple sets of software doing similar things, like
competing AV etc. I don't mind being warned of potential incompatibilities,
although snooping is also a possibility. I now know that Spywareblaster
and Avira are compatible, whatever Avira says. It didn't complain about
the SUPERAntispyware or MBAM on the machine ...
