Spouse has a new Toshiba Portege Win 7 Home laptop. We ditched Norton and
eventually I cleaned the registry of all Norton and Symantec and used
Ccleaner to further clean up the registry. We also installed Avira
Antivirus 2012 Premium (paid) and Spywareblaster. I assume that was the
initial installation order. She has had enormous problems with the system
freezing, of course not reliably at a certain point in working. I spent
hours trying to ferrret out the problem and it appeared that booting with
Avira services activated, it more or less reliably froze at some point. I
uninstalled Avira, and things are going smoothly now. Spywareblaster (also
paid) is up to date. I then reinstalled Avira, and the system seems stable
now, but during installation Avira wanted me to uninstall Spywareblaster.
Why?? I didn't and so far so good.

Any comments?? Additional or alternative security recommendations?
