I agree, it is excellent and I too have used it. http://www.winpatrol.com/

Unfortunately, there is no version for the Apple OS X! :-(

I did once email Bill Pytlovany and ask, but he said he had no plans for
    making a Mac version! ;-)

Have you ever investigated exactly *what* is loaded onto your computer
when you choose to download a Hosts file? I mean a forensic-type check
after downloading onto a known clean machine (a new or wiped HD should
be OK! <smile>) I'll bet not!

Btw, which one (Hosts file) do *you* use?

Yes, a text file named HOSTS.

Not necessary. It's a plain text file. You can see the MVPS one here,
and modify it as you wish.

    MVPS.

    Thanks for the answers.

I know I'm dopey sometimes, but I understood that malware *can* be
downloaded *in conjunction* with a plain text file.

Indeed, just *visiting* a URL can infect a computer - can't it?!!

Just take a pause to think about those things, Graham. :-)

Simple stuff to me, David. Did you have a specific point or question?

    Hi Dustin

Will you, please, confirm that malware *can* be downloaded *in
conjunction* with a plain text file?

Seems as if others don't believe *me*! They will respect *your* view.

Do you ever think to check something as simple and straight-forward as
the MVP's Host file - just to see if it actually *is* clean - and
doesn't come with a hidden payload?

The MVPS file installs with a standard DOS batch file, that you can open and
see the steps in a basic text editor, before you run it.
So there is nothing "hidden" or "mallicious"

I occasionally have some issues with a few of the entries, but it's simple
enough to change them when I want
