That's why you need something resident to keep changes being made to
startup items and HOSTS file. I've used Winpatrol for many years for
    this.

I agree, it is excellent and I too have used it. http://www.winpatrol.com/

Unfortunately, there is no version for the Apple OS X! :-(

I did once email Bill Pytlovany and ask, but he said he had no plans for
    making a Mac version! ;-)

Have you ever investigated exactly *what* is loaded onto your computer
when you choose to download a Hosts file? I mean a forensic-type check
after downloading onto a known clean machine (a new or wiped HD should
be OK! <smile>) I'll bet not!

Btw, which one (Hosts file) do *you* use?

As a self declared stooge for MI 5 and self declared
'bad guy' hunter you check it out and report back your findings.

I suppose it is *impossible* for
one to be downloading more than one bargained for, eh? Out of interest,
    exactly who checks?

Strangely you are an idiot. Cannot read now?? Comprehension issues?? Did not take
your meds ? Your computing knowledge is almost zero compared to 10 year olds who
know their computer material far more then you ever will.

Yes, a text file named HOSTS.

Not necessary. It's a plain text file. You can see the MVPS one here,
and modify it as you wish.

    Easy question.

Why cannot this fellow - Ramesh Srinivasan - be found here?

    https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/co...esh+Srinivasan

I admit I find it interesting to learn that the site belongs to one
individual. Somehow I had a notion that it was a team effort to produce
    the Hosts file.

    Thanks for the answers.

I know I'm dopey sometimes, but I understood that malware *can* be
downloaded *in conjunction* with a plain text file.

Indeed, just *visiting* a URL can infect a computer - can't it?!!

Just take a pause to think about those things, Graham. :-)
