    best AV, anti malware ??

    New machine - Win7 Pro.
I have a subscription to Avira premium (paid version of Avira), but what
is/are today the best AV and antimalware programs to put on this machine?

If it matters, I've had no real infections that I am aware of on previous
machines running XP or Vista with (lately) Avira & SAS.

Looking for real advice, no rants, please, and I know you will come with
opinions that I will carefully consider <grin>!!

Avira and SAS are good choices.

IMO Microsoft Security Essentials is the best and it's free.

Out of interest, when you say MSE is the best, what is your opinion
    based on?

It works well on all my measures including a library of malware I have
collected. Avira does just as well but it's not free.

I have been having a great time setting up and using software instead of the
normal daily/weekly scanning for malware so I thought that perhaps others
    might too.
