    Something interesting

I downloaded a trial version of a program called Replay Media Catcher 4
which is basically an app to capture streamed flash video. I didn't do a
whole lot of research. When I installed it I lost my internet connection. I
have XP and when I went to my Local Area Connection / TCP-IP properties, it
was set on "Use the following IP address" and was set at 0.0.0.0. This
computer has always been set to 192.168.1.12 or set to obtain an IP address
automatically. This time it had been set to automatic.
Fearlessly, I corrected the problem and went ahead and tried the program.
The trial version only downloads half of everything. Half of every piece of
the show, half of every commercial. The only clue I had that something
might be wrong was that MBAM blocked an IP address. When I tired of
playing, I uninstalled the damn thing and then ran a quick scan with MBAM
to see if it had flocked with anything else. Nothing showed up, but that's
the first time I've seen anything jump in and revise my network settings. I
did a full disk image last night, so if anything blows up I can always go
    back to yesterday.

Depends on what you consider "network settings". Did you also check
for a proxy server being set up?

Or for a layered service provider being added in (though I don't see
as many of those as I used to)?

Or to see if your DNS servers have been changed?

Yep. No proxy had been set up.

When I went to look at it, it had been set to a specific IP (0.0.0.0) and
the "use the following DNS" box was checked but nothing was entered. I set
it back to automatic on the IP and typed in the nameserver addresses. I
always had those typed in whether the IP was set to automatic or not.

I've run MBam and Avira manually and both are coming up clean.
