A few years ago, I got sick and tired of worrying about all this
spyware crapola. Always, according to others, I needed another super
new spyware/adware program. I got nothing but problems from many of
these programs. They're also intrusive as hell. The same goes for
those all-in-one firewall/av/adware "Internet Security" stuff. I
found they're not necessary. I also think that much of the ravings
about Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware are just the dishonest BS
spouted by a group of tech friends helping their buddies make money.
Since giving up on all these "super" programs, I now keep it simple.
I use the following -
The paid-for version of AVG Anti-Virus 2011 (When in doubt
about an AVG warning, I use the online VirusTotal page.)
Windows XP Pro built in firewall (Which passes ALL the tests on
Gibson's pages.)
Freebie Windows XP MVPS Host file
Freebie SpywareBlaster
I download Warez from Usenet groups - NEVER from a Web Warez site. I
download from Usenet porn groups - NEVER from a porn Web site. I
ALWAYS pay attention and follow AVG's warning about Web pages which
may be unsafe. With this simple protective regimen, I have not been
infected by a single virus or any type of malware. And my online
life is much simpler these days.
Oh, yeah - all you hypocrites can now proclaim how you never
downloaded porn. Ha! Ninety percent - if not ninety-nine percent, of
you HAVE downloaded porn on the sly.
My advice: Forget all those phony programs and save yourself money
and the problems that most of them cause.
