    Silj,

Isn't there a certain amount of redundancy in running Spywareblaster
and a Hosts file? So, if one lets Avira run the way it is...with SWB
at least partially running...wouldn't one be better off?. I don't
feel comfortable unchecking the protection the Avira temporary
    solution suggests.

Here is a thread that explains, in a post by Mele, how Spyware Blaster
    works...for those that didn't know...like me.

SpywareBlaster captures and isolates "bad" CLSID's - sometimes referred to as BHO's
or, Browser Helper Objects, the software "killbits" these in your Registry from being infected
by inoculating them. More > (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CLSID)

This is one of the ways a Malware Researcher determines if the item needs to be removed
from the HJT or OTL Log(s) or no.

In summary, I would not run an OS without SpywareBlaster, others may have differing opinions
    and I respect that.

I hope that answers your queries.
