WTF has this to do with you, Peter Foldes?

Whist you're here, though, take a look at an honest man's web page:-

    http://www.rossde.com/retired.html

Then show me something similar for yourself. Deal?

    No? <shrug>

Rather like Mr Lipman - *he* hides in the shadows too! I wonder why!

I don't hide in the shadows. I hide in plain sight. As I have said before, it is a
    function of practicing good OPSEC.

I've never done any...so with your 'many' and Dustin's 100, "we" have
many hundreds of BIOS replacement experience. D

    | I've never done any...so with your 'many' and Dustin's 100, "we" have
    | many hundreds of BIOS replacement experience. D

Back in the days of the IBM clones, I had to do numerous BIOS upgrades. Many early
z80/'88/'86 platforms didn't have a .BIN file and a utility, you ordered a chip. You'd
pry 'em out and plug in the replacement. If you peeled off the label you'd see the clear
window to allow the UV light in to zap the chip back to zeros.

Later as 286/386/486 evolved you'd download the DOS flash utility and motherboard .BIN
file and you'd put them on a DOS Boot Floppy. Subsequently the mixed mode Windows/DOS
    file came out.

Today it's easy. Download a Windows application and upgrade the BIOS. All integreated
    into one EXE.

Whenever I upgrade the hardware, install a new OS or reinstall the OS I try flash to the
    latest BIOS.

The most common kind of issues I see fixed with a BIOS update are...
    - hard disk compatibility
    - RAM compatibility/RAM upgrades
    - notebook CPU cooling fan issues
    - USB/FireWire issues
    - Plug 'n Play issues

Now it seems the BIOS is multiplexed. The system actually has multiple sub-system BIOS'
and a flash utility updates them all.

I used to change them on z80 and on the Spacewalker boards back in 93-97.Sometimes
it was a ***** to pull them especially when the ends of the pins were bent for a
snug fit. But I have to admit I have not physically changed one since back then. Now
it is easy with flashing which I have done numerous times to keep up with the
    Jones's :-)
