What does this have to do with AVG, Grisoft ?

Isn't Kaspersky the AV to be suggested by Check Point Software ?

    Nothing.

    > Isn't Kaspersky the AV to be suggested by Check Point Software ?

No. The scare is to promote ZA Pro.

CheckPoint acquired ZoneLabs in late 2003.

I haven't seen any damage control coming out of CheckPoint yet.

My error. The promotion is for ZA Security Suite. ZA Pro has no AV.

    > Isn't Kaspersky a part of that "pro" version ?

You are correct that Kaspersky provides the AV for the security suite
which has AV (and the ZA AV product), unlike the Pro version.

ZA is now saying that they have turned the alert off.
http://peek.snipr.com/15o3v3 ZoneAlarm Popup Message Explained ... we
realized that it was mis-interpreted and have turned the pop-up message off.

This is a graphic of one phase of the alert, where ZA is saying that the
user needs additional protection above ZA free and (at the time of the
alert) that AV protection was not provided by the AVs Norton,
TrendMicro, Free AVG, Avast, or Avira
    http://www.avinashtech.com/wp-conten.../scareware.png

.... but that the ZA security suite did protect.

And the wikipedia ZA article confirms the Kaspersky relationship for the
ZA AV and also security suite -- but not ZA Pro which has no AV.

So far I have found nothing on the ZA website which even mentions/
acknowledges that Kaspersky provides the AV for ZA.

Also, ZA refers to various AV testers such as AV Comparatives and VB 100
'certification' which neither AV comparatives nor VB 100 says anything
about ZA testing (but of course tests Kaspersky) -- that is, based on
-1- visiting the ZA site to find out about the quality of its AV would
give no clue about Kaspersky relationship (unless there is something in
the forums) and -2- following up on the ZA 'references' for its AV would
give no clue about why ZA cited those references, as ZA's product is not
listed by the testers/ reviewers/ comparators.

Also, VB-100 is an 'awkward' reference support, requiring registration
to view any of their comparison data.

It seems to me that ZA under CheckPoint is being run in a 'cheesy' manner.

Q: What is new about the “new” antivirus engine?
A: "Starting with version 7.0, ZoneAlarm offered a new antivirus engine that is arguably
the most respected and effective antivirus engine available today. This award-winning
Antivirus technology is from Kaspersky Labs. "

The ZA website is the front door for the ZA products
    http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en....htm?lid=en-us

I finally found a blog related to that site and kaspersky term gets hits
in the subdomain blog.zonealarm.com such as
    http://blog.zonealarm.com/blog/2006/...arm_suite.html ZoneAlarm
    Security Suite Integrates Kaspersky Antivirus

Kaspersky discussions are also found a lot in subdomain forums.zonealarm.com

I don't consider that to be the same as being able to find the
relationship on zonealarm.com's discussion of its products.

If one searches for the concurrence of zonealarm and kaspersky, there
are plenty of hits, but my point is about zonealarm's site not
'presenting' the kaspersky technology upfront as the basis for its AV
while trying to take credit for the benefits of using the tech.

If a 'shopper' goes to zonealarm and reads lots and lots of ZA pages
promoting all the ZA products, the kaspersky relationship with those
products which use AV is kept a 'secret' -- except that ZA tries to
claim 'credit' for favorable AV comparisons, which AV comparisons only
    mention kaspersky, not zonealarm's products.

It seems to me to be a form of 'duplicity' - hiding (not mentioning) one
thing, the Kaspersky relationship, while claiming 'credit' for positive
comparatives - which are not its own.
