Silj,
It was said on here that being on Facebook was a danger to your privacy. So
I have not gone onto it (or Twitter). Has anything changed? There seem to be
a lot of people on them.

You can limit the risks a lot by not letting the games and apps access your
data. Usually that means no games like Farmville. YMMV. I have no
interest in most of those things. If you come out loudly against XYZ, some
people will excoriate you for that. Just like here. Also, what you don't
put in FB, or say on FB, can't hurt you.

Social networking is here to stay, Facebook has over 500 million users.
Twitter not as many but a lot of folks I know use both.
Both services and other social exchange sites have their inherent privacy issues.
Facebook, probably the most. Unless you lock down your Facebook account
you are wide open to datamining and exploits as they are found almost weekly.
I don't Tweet, personally I have never seem the use for this sort of service, many
do.
There is too much detail to post here, if you should choose to use either, or, proceed
with caution. Be aware and check the EULA's, TOS, Privacy, etc, often.

EULA = End User License Agreement
TOS = Terms of Service
You should also read and understand the privacy policies of any site
you share personal information with.

@ Andy Walker -
Thanks for picking this up as I might have missed it.
** Cheers, **
@ Gashead -

Always try to read, whether it be software of a site Privacy Policy,
*before* you sign up (or) buy.

I see no benefit in using either service - they provide nothing that you
can't do by email with your friends.

You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little
voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that.
Trust yourself.

Thanks guys I will stay out. I am not technical minded and I don't say much
on here but I watch this site and take on some of the advice. Thanks again.
