    With an up to date Hosts file in place, is it necessary to install and
    run Firefox add-ons such as NoSript, Adblock or similar?

    The MVPS Hosts file has some similarities to the two FF ad-ons you
    quote but are not a replacement for them, they are opt-in ad-ons for FF.
