Thread: [ROOTKIT INFECTION] PUP.BitMiner: kwrd.dll

  1. #71
ESET log (copied and pasted from the program, still no .txt file logs anywhere)

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\System32\consrv.dll .vir Win64/Sirefef.G trojan cleaned by deleting - quarantined
C:\WINDOWS\assembly\temp\U\80000032.@ probably a variant of Win32/Olmarik.AVQ trojan cleaned by deleting - quarantined

    Moving on to Revo.

  2. #72
Revo isn't detecting any McAfee programs at all, so I haven't done anything with it yet. However, DDS scans are still detecting it. I haven't restart the computer since the ESET scan. I'll wait to hear from your for the next step.

Delete that DDS program completely. Also, I want you to turn off system restore completely also.

    • Open System by clicking the Start button , right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.
    • In the left pane, click System protection. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • Under Protection Settings, click the disk, and then click Configure.
    • Click Turn off system protection, click OK, and then click OK again.

I want you to do something I rarely recommend but this "bugger" is a beast! I have spent much of today researching this and some have success removing it and others don't and end up reformatting the computer and reinstalling. I am truly trying to avoid this!

    Open CCleaner.
Go to the Registry Section. Click the Scan for Issues button. Let it scan. Once complete it is going to essentially show you "dead" registry entries, listings that now point to nothing. I want you to delete all found. It will ask if you want to make a back up, choose yes and then let it get rid of everything found.

    Then do the following:

    Download HiJackThis version 2.0.4
    http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

Run a Full Scan and Save the log, post back here with it.

I was the in middle of another time-passing ESET scan which also came up clean (as far as 96% of the search had gotten, anyway). I deleted about 30 things via CCleaner. When I ran HijackThis, I did get one error message about not being denied write access to the Hosts file. It told me how to manually fix any lines that the scan reports, so let me know if there are any such lines in the log:

You DO need to fix the Host file. Do it this way:

    Download

    http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.zip

[right-click - Select: Save Target As] [Updated November-23-2011]

Updating the MVPS HOSTS file in Windows 7 requires special instructionsMicrosoft has simplified the process somewhat (from Vista) ...
Simply locate the "hosts.zip" file you downloaded, by default it should be located in your "User" Download folder.
Highlight the file (single-click) then right-click and select > Extract All from the menu ...
Next: Make sure there is a check in the "Show extracted files when complete" option
Next: right-click the installer "mvps.bat" and select: Run as Administrator

Ok the UAC prompt and the batch file will run ... which will backup the existing HOSTS file (HOSTS.MVP) then copy the updated HOSTS file to the proper location. You should see a completed prompt (press any key) and that's it

Once you have done this come back here, couple more things I want you to do.

One thing, have you updated MBA-M? They released a brand new version today.

I fixed the Hosts file. And yes, I check the updates on MBA-M every time I open the program out of habit.

So your latest MBA-M scan was done with the new version? The one you said came up clean?
The last log you posted was the old version and old data base.
    New one looks like this:
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60.0.1800
    www.malwarebytes.org

    Database version: v2011.12.28.01

Weird. Must've been two today, then. The current date on it is "12/27/2011", but it's updating just the same. I can run that and post another log.
