    "messages" from ISP

    Hi,

Hope I posted this at the right place.

My ISP posts an announcement like new number etc. as soon as I "log-in" and open my browser.
This is what happens, I open my browser, click on a website, then before the website (example abc.com) appears the announcement would appear first, than there's a "click here to continue to abc.com", I have to click the link to continue.

    Problem is, this happens
-every time I log in and enter a site
-use the "tab", to open another site

And this is getting to be very annoying.

Checked with them, confirmed the "message" is from them, but their advise (enable pop up blocker) as to how to stop the "announcement" from appearing every time is unsuccessful!

Am using Firefox, have already used adblock and site block but to no avail, any ideas? Thanks.

Are you sure the advice is enable the pop-up blocker? Many, many websites DO have this type of message. Do you get that type of message when you come here for example? When you log into a site do you place a checkmark in the box that many sites, such as ours, which says "remember me"? This way you by-pass the log in page when you log in.
Also, are you removing all your cookies each time you shut down the computer or are your settings as such that you allow NO cookies?
You have to allow some cookies in order to return to a site. You should allow first party cookies. This way your browser will take you right into most web sites. Of course sites where extra security is needed, your banking site for instance, a log in will Always be required.

What the hell kind of an ISP is that? What they are doing is a lot like a browser hijacker/re-director similar to some of the malware that people fight against do!
I would dump that ISP or if you can't for whatever reasons, at least tell them that you'd if they wouldn't remove it altogether.

This type of ISP 'branding' or 'controlling' makes me mad.

It sounds like a hijack to get click through counts. If you received the "message" through email, just want you to know that there are a number of way's a hijacker can spoof your ISP via email, to the T, exact fonts, exact graphics, email addresses etc.. I guess if you called your ISP and they Confirmed that they sent the message and it's some kind of "update" then I suggest using your previous settings, disable or uninstall any of their add in software, then use the windows default software, if it's dialup, use the dialup connection wizard in windows to configure your connection etc.. If it doesn't work and they don't offer another suggestion that doesn't include their "update" I agree with the previous suggestion to look for another ISP.

    Hi, thanks for your replies.

    Here are some updates:
    - The "Announcement: A Message From Your ISP" that they added new phonelines is still up as of this moment.
    - I use a dial-up line
    - I don't usually remove cookies
    - The message still comes out every "click" - I have to click the link on top again to go to the desired webpage

Will call them up again, getting very annoyed.

A concern is - I pass through the "announcement" when I log in here, then click to continue, are they able to get my info. by doing so?

    Thanks again.

You say in your previous post that you
Will call them up again, getting very annoyed.
When you do be sure to tell them exactly what ~TL told you to say...tell them you are going to dump them if they do not correct this. Do they say WHY? you are receiving these pop-ups? Who exactly is your ISP?

Judging from their reply, I think ISP had already received a lot of complaints for their clients, they say its for announcement purposes and would remove it in a few days (I hope)

I right click the mouse and here are some info. on the page. Firefox block site is on but page still appears. Thanks.
