Need help with external hard drive

    Hi

I've got a Seagate GoFlex Desktop 2TB drive.

It recently started clicking and having beeping noises after I did a Windows repair on it (it popped up when I plugged in the drive).

I was unable to recover my stuff but I have since formatted the drive and am able to go in and out of it on my computer and access any new files without a problem.

My problem here is that it still beeps and clicks. Should I still continue to use this drive? Is there any way to make the beeping go away?

Beeps and clicks - not sounding good.
    Run a Hard Drive test.

Are you sure that the beeps are from the Hard Drive and not the Motherboard or Ram stick?

The beeps are from the hard drive itself. I held it close to my ears to verify :\

Hard drives do not make beeping sounds, clicking yes but never seen one that made a beeping sound. This is a feature of motherboard, no other component can make the beeping sound as they lack the capability.
Anyhow, assuming this is a new purchase, I would advise you to call in to get it replaced. Even if the seller doesn't help, Seagate should still cover it. Clicking or similar sounds coming from a drive is never a good sign or more importantly it doesn't get better nor can it be fixed by a home user. If under warranty, do not waste any time, send it in.

It was definitely coming from the external hard drive, even if not from the drive itself. All I know is the beeps came from the external drive. I have since sent it back to SeaGate for a fix, its 6 days from a full month since then. Hopefully all will be well when it gets back to me. Thanks for the help.

Oh, I didn't realize it was an eternal drive which makes sense because of the casing, it could be equipped to make such sounds.
Glad you were able to return it for an exchange before it was too late.
