Question 2011-02-15 | PC running slow, need help checking it out (please)

Hello and thank you in advance for your help...it's much appreciated.

Recently, within the last 2-3 weeks, my PC started responding very very slowly; dragging and hanging. In Windows Explorer, when I used right-click to open a JPEG file, Windows Explorer would just kind of hang and take forever to open the file or sometimes, I'd have to control-alt-delete and end task due to no response whatsoever.

I've read and followed the instructions posted: "Read Me First Before Requesting Help"...and attached the following:

    Thank you! Melissa

Hi I am not a Hjt log expert - our expert seems not to be online for some time,
and so I can only offer these suggestions.
As far as I can tell - the log looks clean.
    MalwareBytes - removes two infections.

How much Ram [memory] do you have installed?
Hard drive size - free space??

Click Start >Computer > right click on C Drive >select Tools
Under Error checking click Check Now.
Tick both options and then click Start.
You will have to reboot the system for the scan to proceed.

    Download and run Ccleaner.
To clean out all Temp files etc.
Do not use the Registry Cleaner

I'd run an online scan just to double check Norton.

You can also try disabling auto starting program. Go to Start > Run > Type msconfig and try un-checking auto starting program from there. Hope it helps.

Just a word of warning - about using any One Click Fix All programs.

In the old days of Windows 98 - the hard drives were small and it made some sort of sense to use a Registry Cleaner.
In fact, Microsoft included one in their system files on Win 98.

But not any more - as the danger of letting any Registry Cleaner - Registry Booster etc do its thing, can leave you with a system that no longer boots to the desktop.

The space taken up in the registry by any un-installed program files etc, is minimal and there is no need to use a Registry Cleaner.
They can and often do - cause more problems than they solve.

There are better and safer ways to solve any Pc problems, than using any One Click Fxes All programs.

Why not to use Registry Cleaners.
