I then ran AVG free & then AVG-anti-spy, both revealed nothing

The Kaspersky log is CLEAN also! This computer is CLEAN!!!
I see nothing in the HJT log either EXCEPT...are you running Windows Firewall? No firewall is showing but the Windows Firewall does not show. If you don't have it on then turn it on.

Now I have a couple other things I want you to do and I am also going to ask PP to take a look at everything just to be sure we got it all and I am leaving on vacation in a couple hours so he will take a look too.
But I want you to download and install SpywareBlaster
Update it and then enable everything, including Restricted Sites. This will help to protect your computer even more and this nice program DOES NOT run in the background. Just enable all and close the program.
Re-enable your System Restore and you should be good to go!
Like I said, I will have PP take a look just to be certain so he could have another step or two. But it sure looks good right now.

In case if he can't get back promptly, Pokey, I'd suggest that you consider getting rid of the following startup entries as they are far from needed in startup:

Do i just remove them from the HJT log? I just want to be certain, & of course i'd love to run the scan if you don't mind sending it (I expected it to take a bit longer than this hehe)

I still have no sound on my computer though... I guess it could be a fault with my motherboard, i mean it did just stop all of a sudden. But of course, thanks for the help. I'm extremely grateful.

You can download AnalyzerXP 3.5 from this post. I am still working on a few things that will be different and/or correct on the next version but for now the current version's scanning is powerful and good enough.

As far as the startup entries go, you can easily do that by using the freebie Startup Control Panel. First disable the ones I mentioned by unchecking (clearing) the boxes next to them and reboot. If for any reason you change your mind or want to play around with others, reverting back the changes will be a snap!

For your sound problem, check the Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc > OK) to make sure nothing related was disabled or shown as problematic on the list. If all was well in there, I suggest downloading and installing the latest drivers, even if you had them installed currently.

I've done all that, including re-downloading drivers etc etc. the full symptons are no sound at all, in fact my comp doesn't register any speakers "period" for example if you go in to control panel - sound, speech & audio - Speech & audio - Audio the playback dropdown only has my moden as an option. Also my comp doesn't run avi files, even though i've tried redownloading all the necessary codecs (Of course VLC media player plays them)

the symptons are pretty strange, my speakers connect directly to a port in my motherboard, if i was to get a sound card you think that would solve the issue?

Also I noticed in your previous post you mentioned not being able to get Windows Firewall or to get ti working, whatever, if you need a good firewall protection (which we all do), I recommend getting a free known 3rd party program such as ZoneAlarm. It does a 2-way traffic monitoring so it is superior to Windows Firewall anyhow.

As far as the sound issue goes, I didn't get a clear feedback to what I asked you to check for/do. The clearer and more detailed your feedback, the better this poor fella can help...

OK, if you want to hear the crack with the Speakers i'll give a detailed response.


I believe i was running Adware (Nothing else running) when after it was used i noticed they stopped working. I checked device manager & ALL my drives (DVD/CD Drive, Disk Drive & a few sound devices like RealtekAC97) had a "!" next to them, i had a feww suggestions to uninstall them & reboot & the matter should resovle on start up, so i did it with one of the DVD drives & all of them no longer had a "!" near them... However RealtekAC97 was gone. (My CD/DVD & Disk drives now work) So i re-downloaded the driver for RealytekAC97 & it is now in my device manager section, but i cannot choose it in the audio playback section (Or any other section of the same nature) So i am rather stumped.

the thing is, it would be a bit more clearcut if it was just my speakers or audio at fault, but i am rather confused as to why AVI files will not play (You probably know what they are, but they're generally high quality video files commonly compressed in to divx)

As far as i know i don't have a Soundcard, my speakers connect directly to the motherboard, so i am wondering if getting a soundcard would sort out the issue

Well, a quick reply on the sound issue. You mentioned Realtek 97 so I am guessing you have an integrated sound card (where you mentioned plugging it in the motherboard because the soundcard is integrated on the mobo).
Those mediocre at-best sound chips do get fried but commonly it is the OS or the device drivers that gets hosed not the actual hardware itself which I think the problem you are having is.

Removing the sound card from the device manager and then re-installing the drivers (from the CD or the most current one d/l'ed from the manufacturer's web site?) didn't help then that is not good.
I would try uninstalling the drivers/software from the Add-Remove Programs menu if they are listed, then reboot and try re-installing to see if it helped.
Make sure you are trying to most current drivers, if that didn't help then switch to the drivers on the CD as a last resort.
