the first site I checked out claim's that it is more powerfull than a gasoline engine for a combination of reasons, according to the writeup it burns hotter, has a significant amount of effeciency gain, but getting the mixture just right is important. According to the writeup it sounds like the same kinda stuff people go through installing a 15-16 psi turbo on NA engines without mods or an intercooler you'd be stuck at 8psi.

They recomend using a water/methenol injection setup to cool off the egt rather than retarding the timing, that's why you gotta have ceramic coatings and stainless valves and stainless exhaust so it doesn't rust everything. So you'd have to be going after it with the same fervur as boosting an NA for more power, except your going for cleaner cheaper fuel. With the water injection, you are effectively replacing space inside the chamber, so it's like having a variable compression ratio that also acts as a bigger heatsink :P

you have to watchout for gross politics though, I tried moving towards some other fuel and dmv started shoving laws in my face that serve no other purpose but to perpetuate gasoline industry... can't have natural gas in your personal car, can't have cng or liquified propane gas unless your car is over like 12 tons or some crap, can't register your personal alternative fuel automobile without paying an extra 300 something in registration every year for the gasonline tax that you aren't paying anymore.

That crap is BS. That's why I think the GOV't is behind the gas prices even though they deny it....

There are a few vehicles around that are converted to run on propane.

Also, there are propane kits for Diesel engines. You can run as much as 50% propane.

no, there are a couple gassers that were converted to propane.

but road tax laws vary by state and some states may require a tax fee to make up for lost road taxes for running propane.

That's a good point. I'm sorry, but we want to reduce our dependence on oil, so we charge people more for using less oil???

There is a new Biodiesel plant going in a few miles north of us.
Combine that with a methonol plant that is cranking up operations again.

Depending on where you live, I have noticed very different attitudes towards oil consumption. I live in a rather rural area, its a 5 mile drive from my house to the closest store. 30 miles to work. Yea, I know, I live here by choice, but there are quite a few people that live in middle america that have to drive 20K or 30K per year as daily life. I have friends that grew up in major cites that didn't learn to drive until they were 30.

Personally, I think that if every soccer mom would stop driving an excursion to take ONE child three blocks to a friends house, we could cut consumption nicely.
